Comfort Walk Air or Comfort Walk Pro: which harness should you choose?

The Comfort Walk Air and the Comfort Walk Pro are two padded Y-harnesses from Dog Copenhagen. The difference lies mainly in the dog's build: the Air fits most dogs, while the Pro is designed for broader-built dogs.

Are you already familiar with Dog Copenhagen and wondering whether to choose the Comfort Walk Air or the Comfort Walk Pro? Then the choice depends less on the colour and more on your dog's build. In this blog, we explain the difference, show which harness suits which type of dog, and tell you what to look out for when measuring.

What the two harnesses have in common

Both harnesses are lightweight and made from durable material with a soft, breathable lining. They are adjustable at four points, ensuring a good fit, and feature a ring on the back for standard attachment and a front ring that can be used as an aid for no-pull training. Both therefore offer plenty of comfort and a good fit for everyday walks.

The Comfort Walk Air: for most dogs

The Comfort Walk Air is a strong, lightweight harness for everyday use. It is suitable for all dogs and is particularly comfortable for lean, slender dogs and dogs with a deep chest. The harness is easy to put on, and some versions allow you to unfasten the neck strap so that the harness does not have to go over the head.

According to Dog Copenhagen, around 95 per cent of dogs are not broad-built. Think of shepherds, drovers, hunting and water dogs, greyhounds, terriers, pinschers, companion dogs, spaniels, setters, pointers, lurchers and dachshunds. The Air is the right model for these dogs, as a wider harness would sit too far forward on their shoulders.

The Comfort Walk Pro: for active, broader-built dogs

The Comfort Walk Pro was developed for active dogs and is ideal for broader-built dogs. By broader-built, we mean bulldog-type dogs whose front legs are positioned beside the body rather than underneath it. The harness has an ergonomic design that is gentle on the back and neck.

The Pro has a few extras compared to the Air. It features two rust-proof aluminium D-rings and a sturdy faux leather handle on the back that can be used to briefly hold your dog. This handle is not intended for lifting the dog. Reflective 3M strips provide extra visibility in low light, and there is a loop on top for a tag or light.

Which harness is right for your dog?

The choice depends on your dog's build. If your dog is lean or slender, or has a deep chest, the Comfort Walk Air is the right choice. If your dog has a broad bulldog-type build with its front legs positioned beside its body, the Comfort Walk Pro will fit better. If you are unsure, or if your dog has a relatively broad neck, measure up first and email the measurements to us; we will then advise you on the right size and model.

Measuring the right size

For both harnesses, measure your dog's chest circumference at its widest point, all the way around. This widest point is usually a few centimetres behind the front legs. If your dog falls between two sizes, choose the larger size. A well-fitting harness prevents pressure points and allows your dog to move freely. Both harnesses can be washed at 30 degrees in a laundry bag in the washing machine; leave the harness to air dry afterwards.

Frequently asked questions about the Comfort Walk Air and Pro

What is the main difference between the Air and the Pro?

The main difference is the build of the dogs they are designed for. The Comfort Walk Air fits most dogs and is ideal for lean dogs and dogs with a deep chest. The Comfort Walk Pro is wider and designed for broader-built bulldog-type dogs. The Pro also has a handle on the back, aluminium D-rings and 3M reflectivity.

My dog is a shepherd or retriever; which harness should I choose?

Shepherds, retrievers, hunting dogs and most other breeds are not broad-built. The Comfort Walk Air is the right model for these dogs. A wider harness, such as the Pro, would sit too far forward on their shoulders.

Can I use both harnesses for no-pull training?

Yes. Both the Air and the Pro have a front ring that can be used as an aid for no-pull training, in addition to the ring on the back for standard attachment.

How do I measure the right size?

Measure your dog's chest circumference at its widest point, all the way around. This point is usually a few centimetres behind the front legs. If your dog falls between two sizes, choose the larger size.

Can I wash the harness?

Both harnesses can be washed at 30 degrees in a laundry bag in the washing machine with a mild detergent, or by hand. Leave the harness to air dry afterwards and do not tumble dry.
