Urban Trail or Urban Rope: choosing a Dog Copenhagen leash

Urban Trail or Urban Rope: choosing a Dog Copenhagen leash

The Urban Trail and the Urban Rope are two 160 cm leashes from Dog Copenhagen. The main difference is the line itself: the Urban Trail uses flat nylon webbing with several handles, while the Urban Rope uses a rounder nylon cord.

If you already know Dog Copenhagen and you are choosing a leash for daily city walks, the decision usually comes down to two models: the Urban Trail and the Urban Rope. They share a lot, but they handle slightly differently. In this blog we explain what the two leashes have in common, where they differ, and which one suits your walks best.

What the two leashes have in common

Both leashes are 160 cm long and made from soft, durable nylon. Each has a handle lined with soft neoprene for a comfortable grip, and both use a lightweight, strong aluminium carabiner with a locking mechanism. Both also have 3M reflective material worked into the line for better visibility in low light, which is useful on dark city streets in autumn and winter. In short, for everyday walking in town, both leashes offer comfort, strength and visibility.

The Urban Trail: flat webbing with extra control

The Urban Trail leash is made from flat nylon webbing and has several handles along the length of the line. Those in-line handles let you shorten your grip quickly when you want your dog close, for example when crossing a busy street or passing other dogs. It comes with a matching Pouch Organizer bag for poop bags and treats. If you want maximum control in a crowded city setting, the Urban Trail is the model to look at. It is available in two sizes: S with a 2.0 cm band and a small carabiner, and L with a 2.5 cm band and a large carabiner.

The Urban Rope: a lighter, rounder line

The Urban Rope leash uses a round nylon cord instead of flat webbing, which gives it a lighter, more classic feel in the hand. It has the same neoprene-lined handle, aluminium locking carabiner and 3M reflective material, and the handle has a ring that can hold a poop bag dispenser. It is compatible with the Pouch Organizer leash bag as well. The Urban Rope comes in two thicknesses: S at 8 mm with a small carabiner, and L at 11 mm with a large carabiner. Dog Copenhagen advises choosing size L for medium harnesses and collars.

Which leash suits your walks?

If your walks take you through busy streets and you like to shorten the leash often, the Urban Trail with its in-line handles gives you the most control. If you prefer a lighter, simpler line and mostly walk where you do not need to grab your dog close every few steps, the Urban Rope is a comfortable, elegant choice. Both are well suited to the city thanks to the reflective trim and the locking carabiner, so it really comes down to how much hands-on control you want and which feel you prefer.

Caring for your leash

Both leashes are easy to keep clean. You can machine wash them at 30°C without spin in a laundry bag with a mild detergent, or wash them by hand. Let the line air dry afterwards. With a little care, a Dog Copenhagen leash stays comfortable and looks good for a long time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Urban Trail and the Urban Rope?

The main difference is the line. The Urban Trail uses flat nylon webbing with several in-line handles for extra control, while the Urban Rope uses a rounder nylon cord for a lighter feel. Both are 160 cm, with a neoprene-lined handle, an aluminium locking carabiner and 3M reflective material.

Which leash is better for busy city streets?

The Urban Trail is the stronger choice for busy streets, because the handles along the line let you shorten your grip quickly when you want your dog close, for example at a crossing or when passing other dogs.

How long are the leashes?

Both the Urban Trail and the Urban Rope are 160 cm long. They come in two sizes, with a smaller carabiner on the S version and a larger one on the L version.

Which size should I choose?

For the Urban Rope, Dog Copenhagen advises size L for medium harnesses and collars. In general, match the carabiner and band or cord thickness to the size of your dog and its harness. If you are unsure, we are happy to help you choose in the shop.

Are the leashes suitable for walking in the dark?

Yes. Both leashes have 3M reflective material woven into the line, which improves visibility in low light. That makes them a practical choice for early-morning and evening walks in the darker months.
