Product description

Dietary food specially developed for adult cats with chronic renal insufficiency (kidney failure). This is a condition that is very common in cats (about 30% of all cats over 12 years old). The Pro-Vet Renal diet is a complete dry food that must be given for life from the moment chronic renal failure is diagnosed. It therefore contains enough nutrients to maintain the body, so that no other (supplementary) nutrition needs to be given.

  • Dietary food for cats with chronic renal failure (lifelong feeding)
  • Not suitable for kittens!
  • Extends lifespan
  • Delays the condition, does not cure it
  • Reduced risk of other conditions (e.g. diabetes or bladder stones)
  • Keep the cat in the best possible condition (supports body functions, skin and coat)
  • Do not give other snacks or food in between (exception: special products for kidney problems)
  • Available in 2 sizes: 750gr and 3kg

What is Renal Insufficiency?
In cats, chronic renal failure (CRF) is a leading cause of death. The progression of renal insufficiency can be reduced, thereby prolonging the patient's survival, but the disease cannot be cured. There is convincing evidence that an appropriate diet increases the survival time of patients with kidney failure. Low phosphorus intake slows down the loss of kidney function. In addition to being low in phosphorus, a diet for cats with renal insufficiency should be low in protein and sodium, rich in potassium, induce a slightly alkaline urine pH and contain high levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). A low protein intake leads to less accumulation of urea in the blood, which maintains appetite. Low sodium in the diet contributes to the control of blood pressure, which tends to increase in kidney patients. With reduced kidney function there is additional potassium loss, which is compensated by increased absorption. Because the excretion of acids is reduced in kidney disease, the diet should have an alkaline effect. High EPA intake slows the progression of kidney disease in cats. Clearly, restriction of essential nutrients should not cause deficiency and the supply should be sufficient to maintain normal body functions.

How Pro-Vet Renal works

An appropriate renal diet can only slow the loss of nephrons and prolong survival. There are major differences in effectiveness between different commercially available kidney diets. The expected effectiveness of PRO-VET RENAL, which is based on the ideal composition, is equivalent to an average survival time of 30 months after diagnosis. It is likely that this diet food also has a preventive effect and reduces the risk of developing chronic renal failure (CRF) in healthy cats. The risk of kidney failure (CRF) is reduced by the extra vitamin E, the high EPA content and especially the low phosphorus content.
